Preparing your Pro Tools sessions for mixing
Sunday, 26 July 2009

Image

Please label your hard drives with the artist, what it is (multitrack, mixes, ect.), and anything else you think is helpful like sample rate, bit depth, and frame rate.

Please include your working or rough mixes for reference.

Please check the locations of your audio files. Sometimes we get sessions with missing audio files because they were actually on a different drive or on the previous persons workstation.

Please check all your edits.

Please make sure that all crossfades have been checked

Don't assume we have the same plug-ins as you. If the plug-in you are using is apart of the sound then print it and leave an un-effected version in an alternate  playlist.

A stereo track counts as two tracks not one.

Keeping the tracks in a logical order can makes things run smoother and faster.

For example, bass, drums, percussion, guitars, keyboards, strings etc. main vocal then Background vocals .

Notes about the session are always helpful.

Since I do not use the Pro Tools automation, please delete it.

If you would like something muted, mute the region.

Please make sure that your song plays correctly with automation off.

If there is panning automation that is important (panning changes per section (I do this often)  or pannng in rhythm), please leave a note in the comments column in the mix window of Pro Tools.

If you do not have Pro Tools please export consolidated or merged .WAV files starting at the same point i.e. Bar 1 with  notes in a "README.txt"  telling us the sample rate, tempo, meter and any other information.
